Skydive Mossel Bay’s Captain Marvel

In a guide to women with kick ass powers, TheWrap described Captain Marvel as having “superhuman strength, stamina, durability, and agility, and can fly faster than the speed of sound. She can also heal from injuries quickly, has immunity to toxins and poisons, and can shoot light beams from her hands.”. That’s Isobel Rohwer, newest A license member at Skydive Mossel Bay. Her journey from her first static line jump on 8 Aug 2021 to getting her A license, 73 jumps later, on 11 June 2022, was a difficult one filled with failure, disappointment and despondency, not to mention two malfunctions (which she handled expertly by the way). But our Isobel not only healed from a few minor scrapes, she also healed from big emotional hurdles. To our delight, she comes most weekends to shoot her light beams of generosity, care and friendship on our drop zone. Today Isobel is working towards her CAT III Formation Skydiving test for her B license and soon she’ll be the one everyone else on the DZ will want to jump with. We asked her a few questions about how she overcame and conquered to become the awesome skydiver she is today.

What Is The Average Skydiving Height? (and how you can go higher!)

Based on a few different factors, skydiving has several altitudes that could be considered ‘standard’ – most of the time this is between ten thousand and fourteen thousand feet. While you could maths these into an average skydiving height, it is more informative to investigate some of the things that go into deciding how far up you go when you skydive.

South Africa’s Best Dropzone For Experienced Skydivers: Skydive Mossel Bay

Nowadays you can find skydiving operations all over the world, but there are few countries that compete with what South Africa can offer skydivers – whether you are a first-timer, a brand new AFF or static line student, or indeed an experienced skydiver already. Let’s have a look at what makes Skydive Mossel Bay the best of the bunch…

What Is A Static Line Parachute Jump?

Learning to become a skydiver requires knowledge and training in several key areas. You need to learn about the equipment you need, but also the various stages of the jump process such as preparing mentally, getting into the plane correctly, exiting at altitude, the freefall part, deploying your parachute, flying back to the landing area, and touching down in the correct way. If you’ve done a tandem skydive or two, you are off to a great start and can venture to the next step in getting a skydiving license and flying solo!

How Safe Is Skydiving

Skydiving is the original extreme sport, and it is perfectly natural to be nervous about doing it. Evolutionarily speaking, we have only just climbed down from the trees, so jumping out of an aeroplane makes your monkey brain ask a lot of questions. Despite what your instincts insist, many decades of continual refinement mean that skydiving is really very safe. Here are a few ways the wellbeing of skydiving (and skydivers) is looked after.

What Is Tandem Skydiving and How Much Training Do I Need?

Skydiving is one of the most amazing things we can do for fun. Jumping from an aeroplane and falling towards the earth at terminal velocity is difficult to describe, and no matter which words you use it is impossible to capture exactly how it feels. Skydivers generally want everyone to experience the thrill of freefall and to actually do it for yourself is the only way to really understand.
