How To Mentally Prepare For Your Skydive

After years of saying, “One day I’m going to go skydiving”, you’ve finally taken the biggest and most challenging step: You’ve made the booking. The “one day” now has a definitive date and it’s likely you’ll experience a spike in your heart rate along with feelings of nervous energy as you contemplate exactly what you’ll be doing. The good news is that you’re not alone – the majority of people who skydive feel this way – not just first-timers!

The Best Skydiving Plane For Tandems, Groups and Altitude

What kind of planes are used for skydiving? The answer is many and varied, but here at Skydive Mossel Bay, we have one of the very best – The Beechcraft King Air! We have invested significantly in our aircraft as we understand that, while the bit when you are outside the plane is the most exhilarating, making every part of the process enjoyable is what makes Skydive Mossel Bay the best dropzone in the world.

Is There a Weight Limit For Skydiving?

At Skydive Mossel Bay, we have strict limitations on the weight allowed for a tandem skydive. This might seem harsh, but this requirement is not out of any kind of prejudice or bias. Our first priority is the safety of our students and instructors. An important part of that is making sure that the equipment guidelines are followed.

Whether a resident of South Africa or visiting from abroad, it’s easy to overlook one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa known as the Garden Route. For the unfamiliar, the Garden Route is a 300 kilometre (190 miles) stretch of stunning coastline extending from Mossel Bay on the Western Cape to Tsitsikamma on the Eastern Cape. The route is filled by diverse vegetation, lakes, estuaries, stunning beaches, big game animals, and the mildest weather in all of South Africa and according to the Guinness Book for Records, the second mildest climate in the world (Hawaii winning the top spot).

What’s it like having a drop zone owner that’s also your Dad?
It’s not always so good because he bosses me around the whole time. But I do like skydiving here because it’s a cool team and a beautiful place to jump. Skydive Mossel Bay is actually my favourite DZ ad it has nothing to do with my Dad being the owner. I love our beach landing. We have 4-5 different beaches, all of them beautiful. Santos beach is quite tight but there’s also Diaz Beach, the massive Wilderness Beach, and Great Brak Beach – this is unique to Mossel Bay.

What did your wife and family say when you told them you would become a full-time professional skydiver?
My wife, Wilma, was relieved to hear that I was going to take it much easier now and skydive full time.. my cloak and dagger days are over for now. Now I live in fear every day but sometimes I leave my wife at home and go skydiving.
