If you are planning on a tandem skydive, you might not be sure what to expect and feeling a bit scared. A bit of fear is normal and to be expected, so don’t worry about that. Our friendly instructors will quickly put you at ease.
No prior experience is needed for your first tandem skydive. The tandem instructor does all the work, controlling the free fall and the parachute descent. You will be given a short briefing about how to position your body during freefall and what to expect when the parachute opens. Simple as that!
2. There are two main restrictions you should know about. The weight limit is 100kgs per person and for the younger skydivers, there is a height restriction of a minimum of 1.3 meters. Children aged about 10 years and up can skydive as long as the body frame is big enough for the adult harness to fit them securely, they are taller than 135 cms, about 40kgs and a parent is present to sign the indemnity form.
3. It’s advisable to book your slot ahead of time particularly in the busier months of May, June, and December. You can book online, by email, or by phoning us. You will be asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before your booked slot for administration and payments. You can plan on being with us for 2-3 hours, depending on the number of people in your party. Make sure you provide a contact number that works in South Africa so that our ground crew can contact you if there are unfavorable weather conditions.
4. Wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothes. Jeans and t-shirts are good options and a sweatshirt or jersey in the winter months. The best shoes are tie-up shoes like running shoes or tennis shoes. No flip flops, sandals, or high heels. Boots may be considered if they have flat heels and have no buckles or hooks.
6. Bring your best smile for the cameras. Our instructors wear two Go-Pro cameras, one for video and one for photos. You are not permitted to bring your own camera or phone on the skydive as in terms of the Parachute Association of South Africa regulations you have to be a Category II trained skydiver before you can carry a camera on a skydive. Your instructors have had intensive training and a vast amount of experience in dealing with the risks and dangers of skydiving with cameras so you and your footage will be in good hands.
